Imagine the yummiest, most toothy and fun vintage plaid ever. Now, take a look at this one. Vintage tweeds trump all but the most expensive of contemporary textiles. They're tactile, vivid, luscious, and sometimes, as in this case, witty. Presenting a fern green and copper confetti tweed --- autumnal tones speckled with white, turquoise, gold and red flecks. The textile does all the talking ; skirt structure is minimal --- a stright skirt with a small side vent accented by leather buttons. Collegiate. Half-lined in rayon. Gleaming, green-black, men's tie --- patterned with an Italianate decorative motif. Decorative emblems and cards tumble down. Textile is lyrically asymmetrical -- its off-kilter composition might have been influenced by depression-era surrealism. Other color notes: pale clay-pink, carnival orange, white, black. Glossy.

Divine sweater dress-ing. Cloth yourself in a boucle-knit, curve-skimming, narrow, black sheath trimmed with two large bows at the bust. Bows are knit into the fabric --- a subtle, feminine surprise. Boat-neck. Darted. With an adjustable elastic tie inside the waist.

New Look-influenced. Dress construction features a nipped in waist (10 darts) and a wide spead of skirt . The drop-waist is exquisitely scallop-shaped (lined with netting). Faux button placket shows off 16 tiny buttons (dress opens with a metal zip at side). Bracelet-length, cuffed dolman sleeves. Rounded collar is decorated with a rhinestone "brooch" and three pink velvet ribbons. Full full skirt is pleat-folded at the hips.

Fabric is lovely. Crisp, lustrous birds-eye faille is printed in pink, turquoise-green, and off-white on navy. The brush-stroke print abstractly depicts florals.

Beautifully of its time.
