For adventurers of all ages, the classic Tepee (2008) is a simple solution for spending time outdoors with minimal impact on the surrounding landscape. This one was crafted for DWR Tools for Living by Dave Ellis, who spent 10 years working in the canvas business before creating his own line of tents and tepees in 1982. We chose his work because of his quality materials and construction that provides proper ventilation, flame resistance and reinforced stress points. What’s also unique about this design is the sewn-in floor liner that allows proper air flow, while ensuring that nothing accidentally leaves or enters the Tepee. This floor also makes it easier to see where the poles should be placed when building the Tepee. The floor liner is not waterproof, which Ellis did on purpose since material that breathes won’t kill the grass underneath. The exterior canvas is tightly woven, preshrunk 100% cotton Army Duck that’s finished with a Sunforger baked-in process to make the canvas mildew resistant and water repellent. Campfire songs and ghost stories not included. added on 2008-04-03

This modern doormat is a welcome addition to the front of your home. A sheet of gleaming stainless steel surrounds a grid of rubber nubs. The steel holds the strong rubber cleaning knobs in place so that you and your guests can really get shoes and boots clean. The depth of the design means that dirt and mud sinks below the surface and stays outdoors where it belongs. Remove dirt easily by lifting and shaking or by simply spraying with water.

A Designer's Visions, Remade: Is It Carpet, or Is It Real?
Edward Fields, who was known as the bespoke carpet designer to stars like Princess Grace of Monaco and Mary Tyler Moore from the 1950s to the 1970s, considered his rugs art for the floor. Although the late designer’s company was purchased by Tai Ping carpets two years ago, it remains true to his vision. To coincide with the opening of a new showroom in Manhattan, the company is reissuing 60 original rugs; the Deep ($8,960), left, an 8-by-10-foot, hand-dyed wool carpet with varying pile heights, was designed in the 1980s. Prices for the made-to-order, hand-knotted rugs start at about $85 per square foot; to the trade from Edward Fields, 150 East 58th Street (Lexington Avenue), (212) 310-0400. UK designer Jason Heap sought his inspiration for the Infinity + 1 table from free flowing natural phenomena, incorporating the movement and purity he saw in the environment into his table. The Infinity + 1 is designed to be a piece of functional sculpture. The flowing lines of the table base reflect an organic quality while maintaining a contemporary sleek line.

The base is a laminate construction. The central core is of birch plywood with two interfacing layers of American Black Walnut veneer. The edges of the wood are painted using an acrylic paint which can be customized to most color choices. Whilst the thin material provides flexibility, the alternate grain alignment within the plywood gives the piece an extra-ordinary strength.

All timber used in the table is from sustainable sources. The base is available in both light and dark veneers.

AncesTree is a connection system to build a tree of your ancestors. Each element represents a person with the first one being yourself. By connecting new elements representing the persons parents you build your own family tree.

Each element contains a little box. A photograph forms the lid of the box which can hold little objects that are unique for that person. Think of notes, a little book, a ring or piece of hair.

At all times the AncesTree can be expanded by adding new elements or items.

Conducting crackpot experiments with everyday items is one of life's great pleasures. When you're ten. If you're still carrying out half-baked 'research' with helium balloons, baking soda and old chemistry sets past the age of fifteen, you really should take a long hard look at yourself. And once you've done that you should buy the spectacularly infantile Steve Spangler's Geyser Tube. added on 2007-10-10
