Large hollow, hinged anklet, referred to as natal or ental. Often described as Omani, typical of Nizwa and Rostaq. While Indian influence is obvious, some go further to designate this type of anklet as a product of the Indian State of Gujarat, imported into Oman and Hadramaut (south Yemen) by Arab visitors to India and/or to accommodate the large number of Indian wives resident in the area.

Similar pieces of Indian origin often have representational designs on the sides. Such pieces, worn in pairs at weddings are often decorated with gold plate of various size and design applied to the large front panel. Similar pieces, a bit smaller with more rectangular front panels are found in the Sur area of Oman. added on 2008-02-15

Large women's amulet disk (hijab), from the Baharia Oasis in the Egyptian New Valley. Much larger than the typical Egyptian Zar ornament and more naïve in its portrayal of demon figures, the symbolic origin of this piece is still unclear.

Unlike their Zar counterparts, these pieces are almost always larger and constructed from base metal rather than silver alloy. added on 2008-02-15

Jordanian rectangular charm case (hijab) with gold crescent. Pendant chains culminate in a sand cast crescent and cedar trees to which gold disks have been attached.

While pendants of this type were worn as late as the 1950s/60s, this piece was produced shortly after World War I, perhaps by Yousef Faghal.. an Arabian silversmith who came to Jordan in 1921. The chain, as shown, is original with cast elements, typical of the work of Kerak silversmiths who followed the style of Yousef. added on 2008-02-15

Tribal Mirrored Belt: Vintage mega beaded mirror belt base includes two beaded medallions, and 8 entricately beaded and mutli-colored tassels. This belt comes with many hours of creative contruction.

Traditional costume part for Kuchi Tribal ceremony, handmade and handed down from the mothers to daughters and other family members. Now, celebrated and used in American Tribal Bellydance costuming as well Tribal Fusion Bellydance practiced and performed by a growing world community of belly dancers.

Dimensions: 21 1/4" long plus 11" of ties on each side, 2 1/4" wide, tassels: 2 3/4" long.

Description
Instructions for sizes Small (28"), Medium, (32"), and Large (36"). Each size is adjustable up to about 6 inches (so the small belt will fit from 28" to 34").

Directions are also included for adjusting the size further (in case someone wants to make a child size belt, or extra large, etc).

Materials needed:
Railroad Ribbon yarn (or other ribbon yarn)
I (5.5mm) Hook
Bells or Heavy Beads, and about 60-80 Coins, depending on belt size

All materials, except for coins, are available at most major craft carrying stores (walmart, michaels, joannes, etc).
The coins are available many places online. My favorite place to buy them is www.turkish-emporium.com You can also occasionally find them on Ebay.

Delivery: If you want this pattern through email, the shipping cost is free; alternately I can print it out and ship it to you for $.50 ($1 internationally).

For a complete look, I highly recommend that every dancer with one of my headdresses get a pair of these. They are made with a hook at top to connect to loops I've hidden in each of my headdresses. Nearly every natural hair color is available. Sold per pair, in your choice of 3 different lengths.

"Hair" is actually jute, a natural fiber that resembles coarse human hair. The look of the completed braids is rustic, and actually more real looking, and definitely more tribal than if I used artificial hair. I dye these myself, so please note that different dye batches may vary slightly.

The braids come in three different lengths. The 14 inch braids come with 12 cowrie shells woven into each, the 22 inch braids have 24, and the 30 inch have 36. On me (I am 5'6") the 14" braids are mid-back length, the 22" braids are waistlength, and the 30" braids are hip length. In the pics above, I am wearing 22" braids. added on 2008-02-08

Notice how the heel cup grabs your heel and keeps your feet from sliding during intense spinning and complicated dance steps.

The thick lace cross over your foot a number of times to provide stability and comfort.

The extra wide "tabs" at each side of your toes keep the ball of your foot centered on the shoe so there's no spinning off the edges.

The soles are made of a rubber that is hard enough to spin on, yet won't slip.

Added padding between the sole and the leather base provide a heavenly cushion for your feet.

These shoes blow doors on that flimsy Hermes sandal and unlike Hermes, can be worn out doors.
